Hey all, need some help. I have a '05 Am Dlx Jazz V, ash tobacco sunburst to be specific. I have a love hate relationship with this bass. I'll stick with the hate: action and string height, specifically my saddles are nearly on the bridge so I can have my action set as close as possible to Fender specs. Is this normal? Has anyone had the same experience? I had the bass serviced once by my local Fender tech for a cracked truss rod nut. I restrung it this weekend with EB Regular Slinky 5s hoping the lighter gauge would be an improvement over the OEM 8250s. Nope, and the non-tapered EBs don't make much of a difference in height. I've tried tapered DRs too and didn't care for them. I really love this bass but hate that I'm basically out of room for adjustment. Does anyone have any input or advice? Thanks

Hi Marine! Have you tried adding some relief to the neck?

You can also add a shim to the neck. Sometimes even just a matchbook cover makes a lot of difference.

I take it you are using the stock bridge?

Hey:

No, I haven't tried adding neck relief. It's something I never thought/wanted to do to a newer bass. I'll have to do some research on the best place to but the shim.

Yes, I'm using the stock bridge. I was thinking of picking up an OEM high mass bridge but if it's the same as on my 4 string it's only about an 1/8" higher.

As a side note, I don't know if any owners of this same bass feel this way or have the same issue, but I've always wondered if the neck wasn't designed right to handle the tension based on it's radius, the pao ferro fretboard, the contour heal, etc. I don't have this issue on my Am Dlx 4 string J or P.
