I'm an owner of a 2001 Fender Zone with a modern c- profile neck.
Now I'm planning to buy a Geddy Lee J-bass with thin c-profile neck
and I would like to know the difference in thickness between this two necks?

Best regards from Sweden
Johan

I had a 2004 Zone bass. Played a Getty recently. The neck is a little flatter on the back.

The Dewey Decible Synapse is a part of the brain that combinds Librarians and Soundmen and is also used to measure things in Canada.

I have a Geddy Lee Jazz bass (bought it new in 2007) when comparing it to other Jazz basses ...I found it had a nicer neck than the Standard, American standard, & highway one.
I also have a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass this is also a bass you might want to consider (more tone options)
the neck radius on the Marcus is 7.25" (18.41cm) (they managed to duplicate this radius on the Marcus Miller 5 string.....unbelievable..)
The neck radius on the Geddy is 9,5" (24.1 cm)
Both basses feel & play great..... I have to say I don't really prefer one over the other & as a side note.... while I was at my local music store a few months ago I was chatting
about Fender & the Jazz basses I've purchased from this store & I learned that apearantly the Geddy Lee bass is Fenders top selling Jazz bass & the Marcus Miller bass is not far behind....

Good Luck

If you do like a more overall trim feel of the neck, I would stay with a fretboard of 9.5" radius. It's slightly flatter than a 7.5", or 7.25" board. The higher arc of the radius will add a bit of girth to the overall feel. You fingers have to stretch a bit more with the more rounded 7" plus board. 9.5" Is a pretty good mid radius, between the 7.25", and the 12".

The Geddy may be a top seller but to me it is not a top sounder- It looks good it has Jedi's name on it and it has a great neck and it has a good price- so I can under stand the selling thing-- I have better sounding Jazz basses than the Ged.

Some may remember (not) that I removed the bigass 2 bridge from one of my Jedi lees and it sounded better to me. I don't know if it's the wood or what- I also changed pickups -- that helped a bit. I read a review that praised the bass and Gedi Lee himself agreed (of course) that the sig bass was good but just didn't have the same snap as his original. Well yeah-- I have a 72 Jazz also. Way better than a Geddy sig bass. The point being- Geddy at the time of the interview about his bass (sig) said he doesn't use one at his performance. Well yeah!

What's my point? Just FYI I guess- Buy a Geddy . it's not junk. I've owned two. Sold them though but that's just one man standing in a field.

I saw Rush on June 30th here in Vancouver & read an article about the basses he was using on the tour & he was not using his 72 sig Jazz bass.
He was how ever using 2 Jazz bazzes made for him by the custom shop, (let me tell ya these are gorgeous basses both black with a maple neck & pearloid block markers, one had a pearloid pick guard & the other had a Tortie shell pick guard......custom shop should be selling these basses.)
The third bass he used was a Geddy Lee model with a sunburst finish & the 4th bass he used was a Candy Apple red Jazz bass with a Maple neck & black block markers.

As far as sound goes, as I noted in an earlier post I get more tonal options from my Marcus Miller bass as it has an active passive option with a 2 band toggle switch
in passive mode only the volume knobs for each pickup work & in active mode you get both volume control for each pickup plus an active bass boost/cut knob
& a treble boost/cut knob that are both activated ( Marcus had this option put on his orginal bass by Sadowsky back in the early 80's when he was doing a lot of session work & wanted more control over his sound.)

Thank you all for your answers!

Iv'e decided to go for the "Geddy", because it's thinner neck, good looking and nicer pricetag :D

Best regards
Johan
