HI, I've got a MIM active Deluxe JB. The Fender website does not list the type wood used for the body. Any idea? Thanks a bunch.

Alder, thanks for the info. I'm really happy with the active bass. I like the large tonal range and power boost from the preamp. The only mod I've done is adding the BA2 bridge.

I'm curious as to why you put a badass on it?

I wouldn't replace the OEM bridge on a Fender, but for anything else..... "I'm there dude!".
(Just my opinion... Your mileage may vary... Uncle Bob's does.)

What is OEM? Original Equiptment Manufacturer?

I still say BA bridges are okay but they really don't do much for bass except maybe make all the strings respond the same---- which can be good if that's what you need but I think they suck up some tone and make the actual volume lower in alot of cases especially with wood like basswood and other not so good wood-- I've tried them on all kinds of wood basses by Fender. Now I don't have any basses except one with a BA and it's made of padauk. Just one guys' opinion I guess.

They also suck a bunch of cash out of your pocket.

BA Bridges are well made high mass bridges. Just expensive....and their consumer support is the worst.

I had to have a pot replaced and installing a BA2 was a "While I'm at it project." Since my bass is active, I haven't noticed any volume issues. I do have increased sustain. I'm pretty satisfied.

That's all good except Quanns suport. It's probably no use to discuss the down side of a BA2 or 3 or whatever bridge. People are sold on them and that has to be good for the Quann company. They have been around a long time. I'm not sure if the BA is the only thing they produce.

I've bought (over the years )at least 10 and have aquiered a few more in trades etc or they came on a bass I bought. At this point I don't see myself buying any more of them on purpose. The one I have on the Garside works great I must say BUT the Garside is padauk and is basically a carved guitar-- it's one inch thick . The mass of the body is not that great and the BA seems to work nice in that situation.

The Tele bass I used to have with it's big fat Ash body had a BA on it when I got it. (The Tele was not heavy at all.) But the dud sound it had was because of the BA- I'm sure of it. I put the bridge in the pic on it and it was a whole new deal soundwise. That was my first questioning of a BA bridge. I moved on and removed the BA on another bass with somewhat better results for that bass. The kicker was when I got my second Geddy Jazz and I put a stock Fender vintage style bridge on it. The result to me was unquestionable.

Maybe what I'm saying is that the thing where I used to get a bass and without thinking about it I thought the first thing I should do is put a BA2 bridge on it. So I would do that without even giving the bass a chance. I think that was a mistake .

There is no way in heck I would ever change the bridges on my basses that sound great as they are. If you played these basses you would agree. SO what is the real deal here? Should I put BA bridges on them because it will make them sound even better? I don't think so.

Okay- it's just the thoughts of a guy listening to his bass at a gig instead of paying attention to the song I'm playing (sometimes)!! :D

I have a Yamaha BB-5. Not the Nathan East model but the same series. When I first got it is was passive with a crappy bridge that shifted every time I changed strings. I put a Badass 2 on it and the first thing I noticed was it made the tone a little brighter. Almost like somebody put new strings on it (I asked and nobody did). Then I put a set of EMG's in it (I ordered the strings and bridge at about the same time and the bridge came first). It completely changed the sound of that bass I actually liked it alot. I pretty much stopped playing it when I switched to playing 6-string basses.

Stay Brown,
Rev J
