Looks like a '97 USA Jazz to me, according to the serial, headstock decal, etc. Any reason you think it might be bogus?

Fake ? Do you mean Fake Fender as in not a "Real" Fender ? Or do you mean "Fake" as in not really a bass guitar but a mere figment of ones imagination..? if thats the case then WOW!how did the seller pull that off ?
No really its a "actual" Fender by the pics,Why do you question it ? I dont see anything that even remotely raises a red flag,Whats the concern? :?:

Neck plates can be misleading, they seem to switch them up whenever it seems like the right time...or it also can be aftermarket, there MANY of these in all different styles(the big F,the "made in Corona...,some with the serial# etc...)I would def NOT go by this peice to try to date the bass with way to many variables.

The only non-original part that is apparent ,via these pictures, is the pickguard.

The bass appears to be a genuine 1997 Fender Jazz Bass. Have fun playing it!

Definitely a mid to late '97 or real early '98 -

There's one just like it (except for a white pickguard) at my local Guitar Center.

LOL Sabre! Thanks for the nice words.

Yeh, both serial number information and the specs are on internal databases and not for public consumption. But if you go to Fender.com and pick a model, you can pull the same sorts of specs there. Its just that our Manager in Consumer Relations has spent an inordinate amount of time over the course of some years, entering specs for as many models, with as many FMIC brands, as we could get a hold of. So along with newer specs, we also have a good amount of archival info to pull from.
On the serial info for individual instruments, we have a couple of different places to pull from, but it includes a good amount of proprietary info as well (order numbers-invoice numbers, etc). Honestly, the serial info isnt as complete as it could be, mainly because humans are involved :O). For instance one person might enter an amp serial number as
B-45653 and the next person B45653....and of course his colleague 45653.
At any rate.....you get the drift.
Cheers and back to work!!

Hi there! I'm about to buy a American Special (?) Jazz Bass 2006 (looking at the front of headstock it seems to be one. There are a lot of things changed. There's no "American Special" on the headstock. The serial is there, as is the made in USA. And this is, I presume the neckpocket stickers/stamp on neck butt are the the most obvious things to look at. of The seller says he is not the first owner and isn't sure what model it is, he suggests vintage series, roadworn, etc. Maybe someone can give me their opinion? Thanks a lot! http://s40.photobucket.com/user/freddie ... 7.jpg.html Sorry for the less then perfect pictures...!

The black shell pickguard is an aftermarket mod; it appears the original owner was not happy with the stock 3-ply white and decided to replace it.

This bass in its present form looks much cooler.

Definitely a 1997 Jazz.

The change to the Corona neck plate occurred in 1998.

Hit and RUN poster- doesn't come back and say thanks or kiss my butt or anything. Nice.

BTW that bass isn't real . It looks just like the ones Fly Whitlock makes on weekends. He works at Durrells Chili and Waffels on Walabash if you need to get ahold of him.
