It was my favorite looking bass. The problem was (I think) it was an H1 body and must have been a bad piece of wood. It just didn't honk. It was dull sounding. Not good. It's a shame because it looked so cool. I would have kept if for good. It sounded the same as it did when it was all H1. I sold it. It's the last guitar I've built. I'd like to do another just like it but use a good ash body. But now we're talking about money.

I'm not a "Jazz Bass player" but I did build a couple.

Yours came out really swell, and that's a great color.

Rawk On!

Thanks-- it looks great and I tried hard but there is nothing I could do about it not sounding the way it should have. Like I always say-- it's a roll of the dice. After I built more that 5 guitars I started to be honest with myself. I was in the zone for awhile where = since I built this guitar and was so carefull and dude I'm a craftsman now and this thing sounds great-- because I built it. Well no. A dud is a dud. Everybody has had one. It doesn't matter who makes it.

It ( Aqua Jazz)didn't sound embarrasing and a novice player could use it. Sorry though I have a few basses now that have set my standard for me. If a bass doesn't compete with those I usually will get rid of it.

Saweet bass! I would have done a black p-gaurd with a white p-up cover, then a black p-up cover on the one nearest the bridge, thats what I would do,BUT what you did looks fantastic anyway you slice it.
I know what you mean about the dude thing,I did some up-grades on my buddies MiM Jazzbass(badassII bdg,62 p-ups,new elec and fret-level)and it was still as dull as before,it sounded better but not like it should have,it should have ROARED but it meowed, you live and learn but nice job non-the-less,GORGEOUS COLOR

takes away from the experience then? I'm still looking to put together a bass...this is what I'm afraid of. Something that looks amazing like yours but not sounding well.

All I can say is what a great effort! That bass looks incredible, and it's obvious the effort was there. I'll be looking forward to seeing your next one...the one that blows everything else away and you keep forever.

Nice job, no matter what the sound might be like, and thanks for sharing it.

Thanks- I was bummed . My biggest mistake was using the body I chose. It was what I had. A friend of mine (guitar player) is an auto painter. He also does guitars on the side and handles finishing jobs for a well known music store here in town. He did a nice job on it. He has painted several guitars for me over the years . The color is a 57 Chevy color (Based on) . It was like a big cake-- I wanted to take a bite out of it.

I may just piece one together again. I would go with as nice parts as I could - that might take years.

The neck on the bass in the pic had a slight rise at the heel. I took care of it by dressing the last 4 or 5 frets then no problem. I've had only one MM bass neck so far. I would check the neck real close when you get it. If it has any kind of thing going on with it try to get another one. That's my advice.

Get a bright light and sight down from the nut to the heel. look real slow and hard-- you can usually tell the high frets then you just need a short straight edge to rock back and forth on the frets in question.

I had to make the holes bigger on mine to fit the vintage tuners.
I had to gouge out small indents for the tuners on the back of the headstock also.

Yes sight the neck with the strings on. I've found high and low frets usually after the bass is all set up and done. I think you could find them before though. Maybe by using a micrometer. Never done that but it's a thought.

I'd do the maple toothpick thing to the holes with some tightbond glue.
