That's pretty much the consensus of opinion regarding cheap wood. I started a topic about American Specials and Brother Dave gave us all the facts concerning the genius of Fender. They've figured out a good way to use all their junk blanks.

I wish I had all the guitars and basses I ever owned but I don't . Maybe what i do have isn't the greatest but for me, I'm happy.

If it's bothering you that bad, go buy something.

I think you've got some Memorial Day G.A.S.

Have a good one.

What pisses me off is that I had a few of the Mexican 60's classic's come my way to set-up and the one I owned a few years back DID NOT have the extra routing, even many of the Squiers from the 80's DO NOT have the routing.
So why in the name of all that is holy does a 1200.00$(modestly)American Fender jazzbass along with the US Deluxe have this crappy route! ,I dont understand a imported less costing bass=No Routes but an Expensive US model has routes,WHY ME?(why not)

It's called mass production. I've worked in Quality for longer than most of you have been alive. Back in the day, it was "Quality Control". In this time it's known as "Quality Assurance".

The new meaning is, get it done as fast as possible, use the cheapest materials that can be found, cut back on the work force, ship it and if it comes back, send another one.

We as consumers have accepted the fact that whatever we buy will probably not be all that great.

Talking about routing, everything is done my machine.

Maybe the factory in Mexico does not have the big time machines like the US factory- hence the old way to cut the routes and wire tunnels (Mexico) vs. the new big time fast way which is just have that body on the machine for as short a time as possible (US).

I worked at a place that made hand built items (electronic measuring devices) and we were always looking for ways to do it faster without loosing quality. That didn't always happen though. Fender is obviously so big they can do things with more money in the US. I assume the US factory has been Fenders biggest concern from the git go. Maybe if enough bass players wanted the old routes Fender would start doing it that way. But guess what? It's going to cost more.

I couldn't give it to him if I wanted to. It's vintage. It's been in my family a long time. It's not chrome though. Chrome would be worth alot more now.

You're absolutely right about their value. Just the other night I was watching "Antique Road Show" and they had one come in. Now, it was left-handed one ine reasonable condition, it was appraised at $2,475.00.
