I prefer the no pickgaurd look of a Jazzbass, like the bass Jaco sported I believe a sunburst Fender (seeing all the trouble they go trough to paint it)should be able to go without one.
My point is that American standard models have the extending pickup routes connecting the control cavity with the bridge pick-up,not cool but I figured they all have it now and its water over the dam,But I saw the American Special series without the p-gaurd and they all had 3 single routes Not connecting.
I would expect that on a MIM because they want to keep costs lower by faster installation of the electronics but even the 60s classic and 70s classic has seperate routes,so why the higher end ones come with connected routes?,even the US deluxe models are connected.
I really like the look of a nicely grained body w/sunburst perfectely done,it dont make sense to hide it,but Fender again messed up a good thing.

You act surprised, nothing Fender is doing surprises me any more. I thought about leaving my pickguard off on my Jazz until I yanked it off. Lo and behold, a big round cnc hole. I already had a new tortiseshell to put on so no problem. You should see the size of the neck pup hole on the Squier VM Jazz.

Just a thought, if Fender didn't do that, why bother making a Jaco?

Still waiting impatiently for the bridge cover to arrive.

Being that you ARE a bass player, buy the Jaco. It's only $1799.00 and you'll have what you want. It's O.K., we all know what it's like and have all been there before. You know you need another bass.

Just remember, it doesn't make you a bad person. :)

I've got a question. What are the cnc holes for? I found one on my road worn jazz when I was replacing the pickup, and not the slightest...

A cnc machine is a programmed cutting medium, lathe, milling machine, saw of sorts. The hole in our bass is put there as a starting point for the cutters, it roughs out the shape of the body and then humans take over.

Thanks for the explanation, Ox. Makes sense to me. By the way, you got a couple of mighty fine lookin' basses there. I've got five, always want more, but my wife says five is four and a half too many. Go figure.

Reminds me of a guy I knew who was going through a nasty divorce. He said he was willing to split every thing down the middle, so his wife sawed the neck off his Strat while he was sleeping. Later she held up each piece and said "Pick one."

Ugly. Don't remember which "half" he took.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the compliment, I have a Squier VM Jazz too, wiey actually complimented my Jazz makeover!

Women just don't understand.

That's a sad, tragic story about the Strat. Could have been worse. OUCH!

Is that what the hole under my pick guards is???
Thanks! 8)

And all this time you thought it was a place to hide your Susan B. Anthony coin collection.

Thanks, Sabre, for reminding me of my advancing age. Sometimes I forget to remember. I'm not sure why she keeps me around...it's sure not for my musical talent, or lack of therein. She doesn't like my sense of humor, either. Better do the laundry and watch Oprah's last show, huh?

And Ox, I thought the hole was there for me to store a supply of hose washers.

The things you learn here...

My highway one had the vintage routes like the Jaco's it was an 05.
It was refinished with 30 year old Laquer (clear coat)

Since the laquer was so old it didn't take much for it to check. I picked it up from the guy who did it (it was Winter) took it home, took it in the house an hung it up to out gas some more. The next day it was checked and cracked. Old laquer is really not good unless you want a paint job that not everyone will like. The guy I sold it to loved it. I wish I could keep every bass sometimes but it was a Highway one and the wood on those IMO is just not very sound vibrating . It sounded a little muffled. Same thing with alot of my Mex guitars and basses up untill my recent experiances with the Classic 50's and my Roadworn.
