I just purchased this on ebay and I'm worried I got beat for a fake and Ill tell you why. Also, I have attached photos for your help. Thank you.

First, the fender logo appears to be a decal i.e. it is not "part" of the headstock as in other models

second, the fret markers, which are a yellowish color, on the side of the neck are lined up with the fretlines as opposed to centered between the fretlines.

there is a jaco neckplate number T900744

the body neck stamp is C 19474 Nov. 23, 2002
the neck stamp is A.G. (with a 3 written in blue marker) Dated Feb 4, 2003 and there is a sticker with upc number 0056279 - 821

need better brighter pics and pics of the whole guitar

The dots would need to be on the fretlines if it's fretless becuase in order to play in tune you need to be right on the dots--that's what I'm thinking but it's late and I'm tired.

Decal looks right

Not exactly. If it is a replica of Jaco's jazz bass the position markers would be between the frets where they are on a regular bass since Jaco played a Fender Jazz that he de-fretted. The side dot markers would be where they are on a fretted bass but there are still fret lines.

Also about the "Yellowish" fret markers are normal due to aging. Have you ever noticed how white guitars turn yellowish after a while if it was made in 2002 that is plenty of time for yellowing to occur.

Stay Brown,
Rev J

Rev- you are right. It was late and I thought about the dots but didn't feel like typing so I went and crashed. I think the guy prob has the real deal anyway.

Looks like my 2008 one. Indeed dots will be between the fret positions since Jaco's was fretted to begin with. Are the pole pieces on the pick ups like little cones ( beveled) That would indicate a 1962 RI bass, which is the Jaco bass.

I spoke to Fender - it is in fact a "real" jaco. Fender only moved the fret markers to the middle of the frets in 2007 and this is a 2002-2003. I actually just brought it to luthier Michael Caldwell to have the surface & neck refinished, as there were holes & marks on the body from the pickup covers & thumb rest and the neck had some wear as well. But it's genuine, thankfully. I didn't pay nearly as much as the $1800 price tag for a new one and the refinishing is relatively cheap. So it was worth it. Just FYI. It sounds nice. I will post pictures of it in a couple months when its finished. Here are the picks before:
