Real sweet, Tom!

I'm diggin' the vibe with that tortoise-shell guard and the CBS headstock logo.

Rawk on!

I really wish you could have avoided the Hiway one body with using such a nice old neck-- I understand the money thing. Maybe someday you can put a 68-72 neck on a good USA body at least-- not trying to offend just think H1 blows mang. The two I had were campfire wood. If yours sounds like the nector of the Gods- that's great but mine sounded like trying to talk under water. I love Fenders so I don't know what's up with H1s'.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I had some of the same concerns, since I had heard both great things and bad things about the Highway 1's.

It was driving me crazy, though. I had this beautiful vintage neck sitting in my room for literally 5 months, and no way to play it. I tried everything: eBay, craigslist, TalkBass, local repair shops and dealers. I could not put my hands on a vintage body for less than a grand.

This body met all my criteria:
    sunburst
    not relic'ed
decent weight (not too heavy, not too light)
    attractive grain pattern
    nitro-cellulose
not too many separate glue-together pieces

This is definitely a player, and tone-wise, I can't see any reason to worry. It has the Jazz sound I hear in my head. It's got a good measure of the "Geddy Lee" style snap, but it's also got some deeper fundamental in the mix.

If a decently priced vintage Jazz body came my way, I might consider it, just from a vintage-y standpoint. But tone-wise, I am perfectly happy.

My original plan (when I first bought the neck) was to use an after-market body, so this wound up being purer Fender than my original conception.

Believe it or not, this is my first Fender bass and I've been playing bass for 30 years. I'm loving it!

Have fun with yours!

I get where you're coming from. Been there. I was in a similar situation with the Aqua H1 in the pic. That Jazz of yours looks good and if it has the "honk" or even a little bit of it- might as well play the heck out of it.

Well, I've had a chance to put this Jazz/Precision hybrid through it's paces and WOW. I played out in a trio + vocalist setting at a local bar last night.

Thing plays like a dream. Sounds great. People were dancing.

Meets all my criteria, big time.

This is a different animal than my other basses (both neck-thru & active). But I really, really like it.
