Hi guys, this is my first post on here, so please be kind. I bought a jazz bass new in 2009, i love her to bits, however im not good with making changes to basses at all e.g. bridge altering. My question to you all is, when im playin the bass softly it sounds perfect, however, when i play like im feelin it, she makes a clicking sound like the strings are hittin the fretboard a bit. I understand raising the bridge would help, but i play alot of slap style so i like the action low. Can u guys help by postion a like to help. sweet, thanks. Colin

Here's a simple test: put a piece of scotch tape over the last fret (closest to the bridge). If the clicking goes away, you're action is too low for the playing style you have. If you want to slap, you're going to have to put up with the racket. For what it's worth, I play strictly fretless. On those rare times when I slap, I get the racket as well. If you think about it, when you fret a string, especially when playing faster runs, you causing an impact between two metal objects (the string and the fret). That's not going to happen quietly even with the best of technique. One other thing to check is to make sure the click is not ground related, although I'm guessing it's your playing style and not electrical. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your quick response Fretless5, i will give this a go later today. It has that lovley Fender sound, but when recording i have the random task of taking the clicks out. I think your right, it will indeed be my playing style.
