Hi guys,
Got a highway one jazz recently. Love it,it has been gigged regularly since I got it(about twice a week for about a month)I know that has a nitro finish and it is going to so signs of wear pretty quickly. On mine there seems to be a thin layer of satin finish and underneath it is a gloss finish is this the norm?or is it my imagination??? It shines more where I rest my thumb on the bridge pick up for example, this doesn't bother me I'm just curious to know if anybody else has a highway is it the same for you???

I love how sunburst ages. I dig the old pictures of SRV where the only way you could tell his guitar was sunburst was the patch of finish the size of a Quarter on the top bout.

Although on a semi-related subject I was thinking the other day about guitar wear. How is it going to change since most places that we are going to be playing in now will not allow smoking. How much of an effect does cigarette smoke and the chemicals in it have when combined with the chemicals in guitar finish and laquer? I remember reading about Danny Gatton used to coat his strings with a paste made from beer and cigarette ashes when he changed them to get them less "New" sounding."

Stay Brown,
Rev J

I don't know if anyone mentioned- but the finish is shiney because you are actually buffing the finish to a shine where you are coming into contact with it. Over time it gets the shine and eventually it should start to rub off all together.

I was able to take all the finish off mine in 3 hrs with a scotchbrite pad,and refin with some gun-oil,it was sweet but the H.O. finish is'nt to durable, actually its pi$$ poor in that catagory.dont worry about it,a beat-up lookin BRANDNEW bass is the latest craze,it costs 300.00$ more for the Roadworn bass you got your for like 300.00$ less

There is no comparrison between a Hi-way one bass and a Fender Roadworn ------ let me say MY Fender Roadworn Precision bass.
A Hiway one bass-- and I had two (05's) is like a standard Mexican bass in sound, playability, and the finish on one of those is not good. It just has a finish, that's it.

The (my) Roadworn Sunburst Precision Bass - although made in Mejico is more on par with an American bass than the Hiway one is. So I'm saying a Hiway one is like a ( early 90's) Mex bass and a Roadworn (my Roadworn) is like a fine American instrument. It's light in weight- therefore not a problem to stand up with during a 90 minute set. It has the total Mojo, ring gut, strong, even tone, honk, jammin vibration mon. It's easy to take care of buy simply wiping once. The girls like it . What else can I say???
