Just curious why he's never mentioned. He owns two very old Jazz basses and is quite an accomplished musician. Even if you don't like The Eagles, you can't argue with success, personally, I like them.

TBS was a "local boy made good" (Sacramento, CA) and I've enjoyed his music ever since his first band The New Breed had a regional hit and received lots of local airplay back in '66. Once he moved on to Poco there was no stopping him.

I just remembered he was on the cover of Bass Player magazine in August issue '10. You can check it at bassplayer.com although the link says July...I've got the mag right here and it is Aug. Good read. The article says he has a new solo album out called Expando. Haven't checked it out yet.

Back in the day (I'm his age) when I was in basic learning mode, I listened to a lot of Poco as well. I remembered being really impressed by how well his bass lines worked, not to mention his awesome singing ability.

Story lists his Fenders, which include a '62 stack knob (I've seen it on Palladia,) another '62 tuned down a half-step, two '64's and a '65 also drop tuned....all Jazz basses.

There are a few copies available on eBay...just checked.

I've always liked his style. He takes a beating from a lot of people who criticize his ability. Aside from the fact that he is talented, who else has played on more hits and made more money?

+1

How about the "other" Tim?

Of course I'm referring to Tim Bogart.

He's been in some great bands during his career as well.

I saw Bogert playing with Beck and Appice in Pbg in the early '70's. He was just monstrous. I don't recall the material being that good, but with that level of musicianship they could have done a medley of Elmer Fudd meets Tiny Tim tunes and it would've been fine with me.

Still remember Bogert playing a p-bodied bass with either a pre-'57 P or Tele neck (w/small headstock) No clue remaining as to his rig setup. I learnt me a couple of things that night.

I either read or saw an interview with Billy Sheehan recently. He said that the old beat to hell P-bass that he used to use had a Telecaster bass neck on it after seeing Tim Bogert with one. I think Bogert is definitely an unsung hero. He also has about a 4 octave vocal range. I believe at one time he was teaching at both BIT (Bass Institute of Technology) and VIT (Vocal Institute of Technology) at Musicians Institute.

Stay Brown,
Rev J

You're right all the way with your information, Rev., Tim is a great musician. He always made and taught good music. If you go to Wikipedia, you'll see his Telecaster bass.

When I was playing up in New England, circa early '70's, Bogert came through VT with his band Cactus. I didn't get to see them because we were working that night, but I remember people talking about how good they were. Anyone remember them? I haven't listened to them for so long I'll have to hit iTunes and check them out...see what I've forgotten. No, there couldn't have been any mild mind-altering substances affecting my recollection of those times....
