Hello Everyone,

I have 2004ish Fender MIM Jazz Bass, Stock Pick Ups and Pods, Brass Bridge, Bone Nut, and a Maple Neck.

I just got the brass bridge and I'm trying to get the best bass sound possible, any one got any suggestions on what strings I should go with to optimize the sound of the bass with the brass bridge ?

Also what are some other upgrades that I could do to make this bass sound even better?

Thank you for your time
:D

Is there a specific Brand/Gauge you would recommend?

I guess it depends on your taste as to what string to put on the bass. It may also depend on what kind of music you play .

If you play blues or motown , Rythem and Blues, some Jazz, you may want the flatwound strings.

Rock, pop, Grunge, Metal, Hard Rock then you may want a roundwound string.

Everyone has their personal preference. Some people swear by flatwound strings- I however favor roundwound strings for every style of bass playing. I have used Rotosound strings for many years.

People will tell you that flatwound strings will not wear your frets out as soon as roundwound strings will. This is true but to me it's an okay price to pay for the tone I like. It's all an individual choice.

Thank you everyone so much for your help, I really do appreciate it. :D

I do have one more question tho and I know this is kind of a stupid question and is something I should probably know, but can someone explain to me the difference between "rounds" and "flats" in a little bit more detail?

Thank you and once again I really do appreciate it :)

Me too! Just remember in the words of the great Yogi Berra " When you come to a fork in the road-- take it". (Just thought I'd throw that in there)

Oh Really? thanks for clearing that up!!!! Ya see, I thought by buying these string It would make me sound and play just like John Myung. That was my plan at least.

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful :D In case anyone was wondering I ended up going with the flats and loving them. I really like the way they lowered and darkened the tone of my bass.

Thanks again for all the help and I hope to be as helpful to you guys one day!!!

How right you are Pbass-bob,There are no Stupid questions,Only stupid people! LOL!
Once again optimal tone is all your opinion,no-one here can tell you especially without playing or hearing your bass which(whatever mod or string you wish to insert here..)strings will do whatever...
There are strings that coupled with other variables that can "HELP" you acheive a certain tone but its a tone you think or believe is right, without even a description of the bass is kinda hard to give anything but a general take.
