Hey just wondering if I got ripped off today... Bought a 'Jazz' bass with all the fender markings, plays beautifully but something just doesn't feel right about it. Z7 serial number, which means it's supposedly corona built. But were any built with string through body?

Hi, Only a few weeks i brought a 07 MIA Deluxe, it has the through body stringing, HMV bridge, the only visible difference i can see from the pictures (apart from the EQ) is mine has a five blot neck with Corona stamped on it, but saying that there both different basses.
I brought mine used an unfortunately id didn't come with the original hard case, shame seeing as there a nice case an part of the parcel but not the end of the world.
The case mine came with was a bit naff to say the least, get the feeling that the last owner held onto the original because there so nice etc so invested in a Hiscox case for it.
Anyways :D you have a sweet looking bass there so good luck an have fun with it,
All the best !

HMV (high mass vintage) bridge that was new in 2008

(not hijacking your thread :p but....)

Just reading back, mine has a 2007 serial ? is it possible that mine is a very late 07, just as they were introduced ?

The older pre-2010 US Deluxe Jazzes used a deluxe bass bridge with nickelplated brass saddles. The High Mass Vintage bridge didn't came into surface until the advent of the new USA Deluxe models in March 2010.

I've seen a few pre-2010 US Deluxes with the HMV bridge like your sunburst 2007. Subsequently the HMV bridge would be considered more as an aftermarket mod rather than a standard OEM.

My 2007 has the HMV bridge and everything just like the 2008 and newer basses. I've always wondered about that.

I believe 2006 and 2007 were a transitional period for the American Deluxe series.

1. Many American Deluxe basses were fitted with Hipshot UltaLites instead of Schaller LiteBass gears.

2. Fender started using the HMV bridge on the series supposedly during the first half of 2007. I had no official confirmation about that fact.

3. Some US Deluxe Jazzes got white pearloid blocks instead of the usual abalone dots on the unbound fingerboard circa late 2008/early 2009. Jeff Beck's bass babe Rhonda Smith had one of these transitional models in Olympic White Pearl with an aged white pearloid pickguard.

These cosmetic changes marked the decline of the downsized 22-fret design which was a staple on the American Deluxe line since its introduction in July 1995.

I believe the OP & I are talking about 2007 American Standard basses. I bought mine new in 2008, it has a 2007 serial #.

Thanks for the information, i did no know that.
Sobasicallyy the bridge that is on mineisn'tt the standard bridge for the year it was built, its been added after ?
Anyways, i have no issues with it either way, when i first got it i wacontemplatingng changing it but have long changed my mind, it works an sounds great so no need for change for the sake of change etc.
Thanks again !

Sounds like a question better asked BEFORE buying, but this time you got lucky,to many things right on your bass to be a fake, unless it was taken apart and everything was replaced with an exact NON-licensed by Fender part  LOL! enjoy your american standard, its what you got.
