Has anyone played the new American Standard? I'm thinking about selling my MIM Deluxe Active and upgrading. I want to get out and play one but i broke my leg and I am stuck at home, so if you have played one, let me know what you think.

The new standard jass bass is a great bass and i would say it is a must have for the jass bass loves of the world, It has great feel, great sound and passive pick up's which i my mind will always be a better choice for a bass guitar, if you want more out put just change the pick up's to seymore duncan QP 3'S and you will still have great feel and more out put. You can't ask for more in a jass bass, fender is and will always be king of great jass basses. Buy one you'll be very happy with this bass.

No the bridge is more like the vintage style but it is high mass bridge much better for string hight and intonation also you can load the strings through the body of the bass or load through the bridge saddle holes on top very good bridge it made of real metal were the bass $@! bridges are made of pot metal and change some of the sound on a well made bass guitar. Bass $@! bridges not very good in my mind.

Very interesting. That sounds good. I like the idea of a heavier bridge. Now all I have to worry about is the pups. I suppose they may be ok, I just wish they were active instead

Just replace with emg's jass pick up's very easy to install your self and you can hide the battery under the pots or next to them instead of routing out a battery case. and then sell your fender jass pick up's on-line as lots of bass players will buy them for back up pick up's or for one's they are building.

Even with the S-1? I've never replaced pups my self before, but you made it sound easy. I definitely didn't want to have to cut up my bass

The new American standard Jass basses don't come with the s1 switch anymore, and with emg pick up's you get new pot's for your bass included as they are very different than the one's that come stock with the bass, but i said very easy to install which i know you can do your self. I have done six of my twenty basses i own with emg's pick up's because of how easy and fast they are to install to make a passive bass atcive.

So I just have to drop them in? It's really that simple? Wow, that's cake. How is the sound on the EMGs? Is it really worth the extra money? How much time did it take to install?

there is only a couple of spots your have to solder, as far as the sound goes they sound great for active pick up's. the first time i install them was on my rickenbacker 4003 bass and it took me about an hour to complete now i can install them in 30 min's. that includes taking the old ones out.

How about 5 string ones? I've played 4 string j-bass and can't took my hands of off it. Are 5 string j-basses that good? Low B string generally doesn't sound as I expected in the most of the 5 string basses. I hope J-basses can hold the low B string perfectly. I love the real jazz-bass sound and I also like playing 5 string. Is a 5 string american standart j-bass good choice for me?

I play a Fender Roscoe Beck V Jazz (discontinued). It has passive electronics, as with the American Standards. I am very happy with the sound of the bass from G to the contra B.

I also have recorded with an older Fender American Jazz V bass. It was just a quick demo for a website. I ran the bass direct through a microphone preamp (eq.: dead flat & a tiny bit of compression), Fender Pro-Tone Cable, and some fresh round-wound strings. The tone printed very well (down to the contra B)and it was to very easy to get, just plug and adjust the levels...DONE. Keep in mind a "B" string is and will always be more latent then the other strings just because of the sheer size and mass of the string. Most important tonal aspect in regards to balance for a contemporary Fender Jazz bass sound, just keep the B clean unless your using flat-wound strings.

Bottom line, the American Standard V should not have any problem meeting your expectations. Lastly, they have improved them :!:

Thanks for the explanations. I know they improved the standart series this year. I'm considering how the new ones are. The axe I played was an 2006 with S1 switch. For me the S1 is not an addiction but its really a nice speciality. 2008 colour pallet is I think cooler than the years before. The new colours seem to me like 60's. I like it. Another point I want to mention in 2008 series is the maple fingerboards in 5 strings. I like the sound and the feeling of maple fingerboard. I hope to see them as soon as possible in the fender shop in my city.
