I just picked up a mint 1972 Fender catalog off of eBay, thought it would a nice thing to keep with my '72 Jazz. The catalog looks like it was never even read! Anyway, there is a cool photo of a Lake Placid Blue jazz......which just happens to be the same color of mine! Just thought is was cool to see the original catalog and the real thing side by side!

Note the color is a bit off from the catalog scan and my bass does not look that blue in real life.

Keep that catalog in some plastic. Very cool to go with you bass.

+1

Looks pretty close to my repro '66 Jazz Bass......

I store my vintage catalogs in large, official DHS evidence bags -- they keep the covers from becoming scuffed and the pages from developing "dog-ears".

You got a beautiful instrument there!

RAWK ON!

I love vintage instrument catalogs. They are so fun to read and look at, especially from the 50s and 60s.

hi your jazz bass is very nice. I understand you have a 1972 catalogue. I was wondering if they mention the type of string they used on their basses at that time. a round wound or a flat wound?

Fender used flatwound strings as standard issue on all of their basses in 1972.

Your bass has the correct color for LPB. That catalog has had a color shift or something to make the blue look darker than Lake Placid should look.

That's a fine looking Jazz bass you have, I hope you have some fun with it.

That bass was actually a professionally done refin. The paint used was the same used by Fender at the time.

I actually picked up a second '72 Sunburst Jazz some years ago which is my main player. Sold off the LPB model. This is my main Jazz now:

Here's a site that have copies of old Fender catalogs and ads (as well as other brands:) http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/

Here's another one that features Japanese-made Squiers, but has links to some old Fender catalogs and manuals: http://www.21frets.com/catalogs.html

They also have ads: http://www.21frets.com/publish/index.htm
