I just recently aquired a geddy lee model jazz bass. I was wondering if it would be possible to put a bridge cover plate on it. it looks like the bridge is too far back though.

The Leo Quan BA is substantially longer than the standard Fender Jazz Bass bridge and interferes with the installation of a bridge cover.

Hi Cross2,

Yes, the Fender Vintage Reissue covers work perfectly on a Jazz bass unless it has an oversized aftermarket bridge.

Study photos of known original vintage instruments to get an idea on placement. Put masking tape on the finish to mark where to drill. Drill first through a spacer like water bottle caps so it is impossible to drill completely through the instrument. Remove the tape and install the covers. Angela Instruments Dot Com has some.

+1

A depth gauge is mandatory when drilling the holes. Personally, I use a hand-twist pin vise rather than a power tool to prevent accidents. The bridge and pickup covers install with standard pickguard screws -- the holes need only be some 3/8" deep.

I say take the badass off the bass- put a regular bridge on it and then put the cover on it and you will have what is basically a 72 re-issue with a thin neck- SWEET. I took the bad badass bridge off my Geddy and it sounds better-- I don't care what the Naysayers say today 'ay? (that there is Canadian talk)
