I own a Fender American Standard Jazz, with 2 American Standard Jazz Bass Single-Coil Pickups. I am thinking of replacing them, but would like to know the differences between the following pickups; Vintage Jazz Bass®, Vintage Noiseless Jazz Bass® and Custom '60s Jazz Bass® Pickups. I also see that the Marcus Miller Jazz has a Vintage Jazz Bass® Single-Coil Bridge Pickup and a '75 Vintage Jazz Bass® Single-Coil Neck Pickup. Can someone point out the differences between these pickups? I also imagine that I would need a bass tech to do the swap. Thanks for your time.

Hey there. First, if you are at all comfortable with a soldering iron swapping pick-ups is an easy DIY project. If you aren't you should practice on a junker. You'll save yourself money and more importantly time if you can service your own gear. As far as pickups go those all sound a bit different. Go to the Talkbass forum and do a search pick up choices. A good one is Bass Player's 24 Jazz Bass pick up replacements article...here it is in PDF format: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachmen ... 1249166473 Very informative. I have only had experience with the Vintage 60's that came with my Jaco Tribute fretless. That being said, I have replaced the Bridge Pup with a Seymour Duncan Vintage for Jazz Bass SJB-1. I got it for a great price on ebay though I am planning on getting Nordstrands, both neck and bridge when the cash is available. The seem like the best choice for me....I really am looking for a vintage sound that is very clear with a wide response. Second choice would be Lindy Fralin. That is my opinion though, and yours might be different. I do love all the basses I've heard that have Nords. Good luck.

Cool. We all need advice. It's too bad we can't rent gear and see if it's what we want. Good look.
