I realize I have posted alot on this forum complaining about waiting for my new bass. But I've realized the upside.

I'm actually listening to music again. When I was playing alot it was like I was only breathing out and not breathing in. Since I haven't been able to play I have been researching and appreciating music that I only cursereley (new word) new existed.

I realized long ago that as a Jazz/Funk/Prog/Reggae/Hippie Jam Bass player that about 90% of the music I played was based on African and Caribbean Rhythms. So now I have had a chance to sit down and peruse the World Wide Web and hear some of this music and soak it into my subconscious and arrange some of my new priorities to reassess my priorities as a bass player.

Excuse the rant. I just wanted to counteract all of the bitching I do.

Hi there,

totally agreed. I also had to wait about 6 months for my 2010 USA Deluxe Jazz, but the time waiting for it was worth it. I wasn't complaining about it, but as i look back now to the period of waiting - it was really challenging. But you know, all of us are grown-ups now, and IMO it is still a good thing to have to wait like a child for christmas.

That makes the moment of unpacking and playing for the first time much more valuable. The more you have to wait the more you'll respect your instrument.

It's funny how we can rationalize things. While waiting and patience is good for normal people, it is not good for bass players. While we may be "somewhat normal" in regular life, when it comes to our basses, we're all mad!

You can say what you will but, we know how it feels. Tell me I'm not the only one who got up in the middle of the night, to check the porch, the day after ordering something that I KNEW would take at least four days.

You're not alone brother.

Thanks. I also want to share a couple of videos I've been digging on (a part of Reassessment):

http://www.youtube.com/user/pedrovaldez ... fDyYLtNCCo

I know he doesn't play a Fender in this clip but there are other's where he does.

I love this music. It reminds me of what I wanted to do when I was about 18 learning all of the soloistic techniques then saying I want to take these techniques and make working grooves out of them.

And Ox I hear what you're saying about waiting. It's even harder when the keep moving the date. It's kind of like running a marathon and having some moron keep moving the finish line.

Let's rent a bus, drive to wherever they're holding your bass, we'll pick up fellow bassist protesters on the way!

I just got it home. I had to walk from the shop with it in a hardshell case that sucker must weigh about 60 lbs. I think I have blisters on my hands from that. I peeled the film off the pickguard and control cover. Then took the dimebags off the tuners and took the tag off. It's lighter than my old Washburn. When I played it in the shop I noticed the usual issues (noisy soloed pickups, a bit headstock heavy) but these are usual issues that are too common to really $@!&* about. And the guy at the shop told me that the Steve Bailey model is discontinued so I also have a collectors item now. Will post pics soon.
