Ok think tank time............ When I received this bass I immediately realized the body was wrong and some other issues too, the missing exposed screw for the truss rod at the heal of the neck put a pit in my stomach too.

Check out the pics and let me know what you all think............

The Nut adjustment is at the headstock.

The body looks like someone's chopped the bottom off (almost bears a passing resemblance to a warwick dolphin)...the fretboard doesn't look right to me either...:?

Looks a bit bashed around. I hope you didn't pay silly money for it.

The 72, 73, 76 Jazz basses I've had in the passed had a large philip screw at the bottom of the neck on the heal, this one does not as you can see in the pics.

There is a picture of your exact bass on page 79 of Black's The Fender Bass.
It's identified as a 1983 transitional instrument.
I'll try to take a scan and post it.

Hi!
I have Jazz bass 1978. with maple neck and maple fingerboard with pearl inlays. Also have a natural body. Your neck is identical to mine but the body is wrong... that cutaway on the bottom side of the body is disaster. Neck on my bass is also with bullet truss rod nut and has 3 bolt connection on the body.
