Shoot, why not. Others have done it. I don't have anything but Fender products anymore, but if I have one I'd show it off.

Here ya go, one pic with the "gang", and one with "Misty" alone (well, the temp while I get the REAL "Misty"):

Oh, and just to show off (I love guitars, so they should be showed off in my book ) my first guitar, which I no longer have:

Ok, perhaps not a "gang" but a trio.

Yeah, Eddie would have that effect on many people. And I don't blame you for liking Steve Harris... Iron Maiden is AWESOME!!!

One of my next songs to learn is Wasted Years.

Here are a couple of alternatives to Hum cancelling pick ups.

I read Phil Lesh from the Greatful Dead's biography. He said that in the early days when the Dead didn't have very good equipment (and let's face it alot of the equipment we use now is based off gear that was either custom built for the Dead or modifications the Dead did to gear) if they were in a situation with too much hum they would play in B flat (60 Hz is a B flat) and the hum would become a drone like harmonic mooring.

The other alternative is to get an Equalizer and cut at around 60 Hz and leave the rest the way you like it. If you get a Parametric EQ you can narrow down the bandwidth to the point where you only get rid of the hum and not lose alot beyond that.

Rev J

Yeah, I admit my eyes get mostly drawn to both posters, more of the Eddie Trooper, and then of the hugging cuties.

Yeah, I agree. Although, they're actually topless as they're wearing jeans. Don't you love how they squeeze their boobs against each other?

P.S. Are you really 12 years old? If so, you already like fully developed women? Wow.

By the way, I changed the nickname of the Yamaha to "Nightshade", because "Misty" sounds frankly dumb. Yeah, well, nicknaming guitars can be dumb in itself, but I kinda like it.

Maybe I will keep my black beauty anyways, as I'm growing fond of that bass. I just tried the replacement and it didn't quite sound right. The setup was all wrong, fret buzz, too low action, a loose knob. At least the black one I already know.

I don't know, I'm struggling which I should keep: the silver brand new one (which needs a full set up), or the glossy black with more mojo and that plays pretty well already.

Lindy Fralin Split coils are the best I have used but they are pricey at $240 a set

Also used Seymour Duncan Classic Stacks and thought they were a better choice price wise at $75 each pickup http://www.google.com/search?q=seymour+duncan+classic+stack+jazz+bass+pickups&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7

Sorry to chime in late here, but you may not need new pickups at all. Before shucking out a dozen 20 dollar bills for a new pup set, I'd give copper shielding and grounding a go.

Shield the control cavity and both pickup cavities. Solder all seams with one bead of solder. Ground the shielding from each pickup cavity. That will help tremendously. Should cost about just a few bucks so it is worth a shot before spending so much money.

You will have to remove each pickup enough to get full access to the entire pickup cavity, line it with copper tape, bead solder any seam once, then solder on a ground wire which you will later solder to common ground in the control cavity. Punch holes in the copper where the pickup screw holes are and reinstall the pickups.

Shield the entire control cavity including the back cover, sides and bottom where the controls are. Overlap the copper over lip where the back cover seats. You will have to remove the pots enough to get unobstructed access, apply the copper shielding material to encase the entire control cavity, bead solder each seam, solder the ground wires from the pickup cavities to the copper in the control cavity, punch holes for the controls, reinstall controls, solder short wire from copper sheeting to ground on one of the pots, put cover back on. Check that you have a circuit from the bridge to the pot shaft sheath and to each pickup cavity. Reassemble. While a cheap upgrade parts wise since it only requires some copper tape and a foot or two of black wire, it will take several hours to do correctly. The goal is to encase everything but the front of the pickups in shielded copper. If this doesn't make enough difference, then worry about pickup upgrades.

I have used the following:

Fender Noiseless: Nice output, plenty of punch, no noticable noise

Lindy Fralin split coils: Sweet clean tone and slight growl, No noticable noise , excellent tone but very pricy

Seymour Duncan classic Stacks: Clean sweet clean tone with a very low noise level (you have to turn amp up and really listen for it).

My favorite was the Lindy Fralin

Second in line was the Classic Stacks (much better bang for the buck than Fralin and almost as good tone wise)

3rd was the Fender Noiseless. Higher output than Classic Stack with good clean tone but I prefered the tone of the other two. (my preference and yours may be different) If you like a little more growl these may be the ticket)
