Just having an ask to whats the most common bridge upgrade that people use on a Jazz ?

I'm more than happy with the Jazz the way it is, just on first inspection/impression the bridge is about the only thing that i would change on it.

Thoughts and suggestions please ! :D

I think your first impression to stay with what you have is the way to go for the moment. Be sure before making changes, you might be surprised. Good luck.

I kind of think people are all too quick to jump at changing bridges on Fender basses. They want the bass to sound better or something and it's bridge time. I don't think that is the thing to do in alot of cases. I would replace the pickups on a dud sounding bass first- but that's me. I'm not so sure replacement bridges are "Godsends" to the bass world. I tend to think there is a market for replacement bridges because it seems to be the first thing owners think about when wanting to mod a bass. I've been there done that.

I always recommend you get a good seup and new strings on a new bass and play it for a good while before deciding to change anything. You may find a good setup is all that's needed. IMO, aftermarket bridges like the Badass 2 are overrated and mostly snake oil.

I honestly I think part of the problem folks have with Fender Vintage Bridges, they look pretty flimsy. The saddles don't stay in battery. (Don't stay in place without moving as you play)

Thats been my attitude, i can be a pretty aggressive player an being used to the the bridges on my Stingrays with the poles either side of the saddles etc its just visually off putting.
But with that said, only had the bass a week today an so far we getting along great ! 8)

I don't care what they look like, I usually cover them anyway (they look just fine to me either way). I've never had that problem of the saddles moving around with the Fender bridge.

Bathead- I like the way you think..... First there is nothing like an excellent set up to tell if your bass is operating at maximum tolerences. That sounded fancy but it's true. I did a comparrison test with my basses today. They are all set up as much as possible to (be on my side of) Fender specs as noted in the "Guitar Player Repair Guide" by Dan Erlewine. They all conform to the same basic set up rules with just a little tweaking in string heighth and pickup heighth.

First off all the basses sounded really similar . That tells me I'm playing them like me. That enables me to tell bass by bass what's going on. I have old 70's bridges new 08 beefy bridge, string thru body bridge, threaded bridge, etc, and the 55 style bridge with just two saddles. They all have the exact same strings. The basses all sound like they should. Lot's of punch, ring, gut, and honk. They sound almost exactly alike. What does that say about different bridges?
It tells me that the bridges do play a part in the sound of the bass. It kind of tells me that stock Fender bridges are just fine. I mean how can putting a different bridge on my bass actually make it sound better? Isn't that what we are talking about?

You can say- "well I get more sustain" but sustain is relative to alot of things. Wood , neck etc. I can sustain my basses for an hour on one note if I want to. I can do it by positioning myself in certain proximity to my amp on 1/2 volume and then move closer untill the note takes off and then mover away a little to reign it in and then move back closer. My amp would probubly fry before the note quit sustaining.

Seymore Duncan writes:Sustain is usually the length of a note heard through the amplifier. Sustain is usually associated with the higher output pickups that generate more current to the amplifier and often becomes more distorted than lower output pickups. I like the sustain associated with medium weight woods of an instrument, solid bridges and pickups adjusted about 1/16" on the bridge pickup and 3/16" on the neck pickup.
