Best in what terms? Sound? Well what kind of sound are you looking for? There are so many variables in what you're looking for. From the '60s Jazz sound, to the '70s funk sound, to the strerile sound of active pick ups. To the modern thump of the modern Jazz that mimics it's '60s sound with less hum. What kind of music do you play? These are the questions YOU need to answer for us to help you with the "best".

I think my pick-ups are the best. But my question is "How can you tell which one you have?"
I bought my Jazz in 1972....or it might have been '73 (those were some pretty good years) and it is beautiful. Three tone sunburst with maple fretboard and the black block inlays. I bought it before anybody ever heard of a guy named Geddy.
The bass was all I needed or wanted. But I went through a period of not playing much during the mid '80's. All I was doing was mixing. So I loaned it to a friend who needed it for a special gig. And while he had it, he told me that the pick-ups had lost their magnetism and needed to be replaced. Well, I smelled a rat. But I trusted the friend to do me right. So he said he got them replaced with original Fender pick-ups. And the bass sounds just fine to me. But I can't find any marks at all on these pick-ups. And I wanted to know which ones I have. I also noticed in the schematic diagrams that my bass has an .022 uF Cap where almost everything else has .05uf. What's up with that?
Can some of you wise guys lead me out of the dark?
