Other than Fender 8250's, has anyone found a set of strings with a tapered b and e that will string through the body?

I liked the old 8250's with the silver silk wrap, but did not like the new design that came out last year.

I use DRs. I like them better than the Fenders, as they seem to have more range. That being said, if you switch from a constant-radius string set to a tapered set, I strongly recommend getting a qualified tech to adjust the string height after the strings are installed, as the E & B strings will be much closer to the pickups, resulting in some nasty overtones, especially on the B string. If you haven't put the strings on already, measure the height of the B & E strings of the existing set - doesn't matter how you measure it as long as you duplicate the height once you installed the tapered strings.

I think the tapered B & E strings sound better than the constant radius sets myself, plus DRs are just great in general.

All in all the fender jazz are great basses, but you do get what you pay for, both in sound and durability, so the extra 1000 is not just to make the instrument pretty. Anyway, play on them, then decide.
