Hello,

I am new to the forum but have played Fender basses since 1968.

I just purchased a brand new Fender 75 Jazz Bass USA. I own 4 others. I replaced the rounds with flats and have been trying to set it up. The issue I am having is that the pickups seem to have too strong a magnetic field. They are pulling the the E and A strings out of tune. You can hear it as each goes about 20 percent flat. I have lowered the pickups as far as they go. While I have been able to intonate the D and G I cannot get the E and A in tune. I have set the saddles at the customary places. You can still hear it is out of tune as you play up the neck.

Suggestions?

Should I replace the pick ups with SD Antiquity p/u's?

Doc

Replacing them with the Antiquity II's would open it up a great deal,or some Curtis Novak single coils
The Pickups that are in there now have on depth whatsoever.

Your nut may have an effect on the intonation. The relief in the neck and even fret height could have an effect , also how hard you are pushing down--- Adjusting a pickup down as far as it will go -- it sounds odd that it would still pull the strings enough to mess you up being it is set so low. It should not effect anything like that.
I think I'd look over other things that may be causing a problem . 75 Fender Pickups should sound pretty darn good especislly if the magnets are still that good.

OOOOOps- I just re- read-- you are not talking about an actual vintage 75 are you?-- Still the things I wrote still apply.
