For some reason the treble pickup of my J bass is completely dead. I initially thought replacing the volume pot would rectify this but it seems that it is something else entirely.

After consulting the schematics, it seems everything is wired properly.

Specifically, I'm wondering if there are there any known defects or problems with the S1 switching system on this model that may have caused my treble pickup to cease functioning.

Perhaps the magnet it self is dead??

If anyone has any experience with this sort of malfunction, I'd be more than grateful to hear your solutions, speculations, or similar experiences.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I've been a dedicated fender enthusiast for quite a while so I expect my posts in the future to have a more upbeat vibe.

I ended up disabling the S1 switch and routing the pickups to the usual "parallel" configuration, still the pickup still did not sound. Everything is wired properly so at this point, I'm going to assume the pickup itself is dead. This seems to make sense because over time the output of the treble pickup seemed to slowly diminish over time until its current state of silence.

On the positive side, the bass got a new set of strings, a pickguard, and a new volume pot out of this whole ordeal.

Geez, i hate that. I have thrown away way too many basses with dead pickups or some other problem. Can't they make 'em to last forever.

That sux. Now you get to decide on what pups to put in there. :D
And no pics= no dead pup bass.

In this scenario, I was really hoping that the simplest/ most obvious solution would be the quickest; however that did not seem to be the case. Personally, I love the bass, it plays great and when the S1 it had a great tone. I'm looking to replace the bridge pickup with a seymour duncan vintage model pickup.

Definitely visit Brother Dave's website, you'll be glad you did.

Hey Zod, did you know that Rez still shakes his basses over his head before he plays them? He said you told him that he'd never have any problems if he did that.

make fun of it Ron, but I do not have any trouble with any of my basses since Mike told me to do so

Now Pluto, make sure that's the brand you want now. There are plenty of great pick ups out there. So do your own research before biting the bullet bud!

Don't avoid the subject, we were talking about the Indonesian Mating Ritual Dance. It must work, the Squier's coming out of there are great.

Rez,

Why can't you just embrace your inner Indonsesian? Heritage is a very important part of child development. Considering where you live, your kids have to embrace a culture, do you really wasnt them to think that being a CHEESE HEAD" is right?
