I ordered a Steve Bailey Jazz bass back in July 2010 through my local music store. When I first ordered it they advised me that Fender was having issues with their paint vendor but they were quoted September. I checked back in September and was quoted after the new year. I went back in January and they told me it would be ready in February. I went back yesterday and they called their rep on the phone who told them "If there was enough interest that they would have been started last week (so far he didn't know). If not it would be in May." So much for solid answers.

I know Fender has a history of discontinuing lines for lack of interest by the general public. I know it sounds kind of paranoid but what would happen if they discontinue the line before mine is built after I already sank $2200 in it. Would it then go from "Artist Series" to "Custom Shop".

Also does anyone know how I can get in touch with customer service to ask them what is going on on that end?

Stay Brown,
Rev J

I knew about the delays walking in to this venture. I just didn't think it would be almost 9 months. If it were a baby it would be born by now.

Given the history of the Bass V, the Bass VI, the Jazz Plus, the HM Series, the Precision Lite, etc. combined with "If there wasn't enough interest then they will push it back until May," and seeing Steve Baileys picture in the new Warwick ad (I know Steve has also been playing Warwick's and Ibanez's for years too) has me a little paranoid.

I have also been checking e-bay. They have a couple for about $250 more than my local shop. Part of my principals says "Don't do it!" but the part that has been waiting this long says "Screw it scrounge the other $250 and get the freaking bass already."

You're not kidding fj...hey Rev, I hate suggesting this, but maybe you can purchase it from MF instead...I don't know if you want to, or if you would get your down payment back. MF has 2 available right now.

Well, I plan to call Fender tomorrow to talk to somebody to see if the new run of Steve Bailey basses had started last week like the shop told me might have. If not I'm going to contact MF and one of the places I saw on ebay and talk to my SO about the other $250 about actually getting the bass.

That sux, even buying on line really get my goat. But Rev, if it gets canceled, at least you can still get yours before it finally disappears all together. And you my friend will be one of the few lucky ones!

I talked to Fender Customer Service today. The Rep I got didn't know. So I went online. To be honest shopping at GC, MF, SA, etc. is kind of like shopping at WalMart I hate to do it but I will in a pinch. I called various stores to see if they had any in stock. Most didn't but when I talked to the guy at MF he told me on their order screen it is back ordered but has a delivery date of April 6. That made my day.

Well at least you got some sort of answer...the problem is Fender is in control of that back order. So hopefully it's true what MF said and you get a bass sooner than later.
