G'Day from Australia. Found a guy here who has a 5 string jazz (plus??) serial code N004739. he tells me these are rare in Oz as they weren't being imported here in that year. can anyone tell me anything about this just from the Serial Number? Found out is was made at the Corona Plant (Fender), USA in the Year(s): 1990 - 1991 but anymore info on it would be great. I know it has lace pick-ups.....

Sorry Mate no pics unfortunately. I don't own the bass I was just looking at buying it so I don't have a photo only the serial number.

Thanks for tyring to help though, its appreciated.

i'm still interested in buying it now I've cleared a few debts and I'm pretty sure the guy still has the guitar so if anyone has any ideas on the serial number any advice would be valuable.

Thanks Again.

The Jazz Bass Plus V seems to be pretty rare here i the U.S. too. It seems that many players (and even Fender) feel that this bass does not quite capture the essence of the Jazz Bass sound. Having said that, it's still a good sounding bass in its own right. It features Lace Sensors and Kibucci (sp?) pre-amp. It was Fender's first attempt at a modern 5-string bass.

I own a 4 string Jazz Bass Plus and the preamp is the result of a collaboration between Fender and Phillip Kubicki. The controls are the same as those on a Kubicki bass of 1990 and at that time all Kubicki basses were made or distributed via Fender and they had custom shop stickers on them.

The bass has concentric volume, pan, and tone pots along with a three or four position rotary preamp switch, depending on when it was made. I think mine has a passive setting, then two active settings and an off setting.

Its a cool bass and the headstock shape is a bit modernized from the standard Jazz bass shape.
