The fretboard/neck is actually tinted on your guitar . It's not tinted darker like the option you are talking about but it does have a slight tint. If you look at some of the Squires with the real white necks-- those aren't tinted. Not splitting hairs but tinted necks are mentioned alot in the thread. I like your bass. A friend of mine is getting one just like it. What kind of strings are you putting on it and why aren't they Rotosounds??

Yeah, that's true. Still I prefer the "wood" colour they used here than the darker one, but that's my personal taste.

The strings are the ones it came with, so I guess they're Fender ones. Should they be Rotosounds? I still can't tell the difference between brands. So far, these ones sound pretty good to me.

Stroker's playin with ya. any strings would work, it's all your preference really. I like DR strings - Hi Beams. I always like stainless strings. You might like the warmth of nickel strings, and go with GHS or D'addarios or Ernie Balls...get which ever ones you want that sounds the best to you.

Yeh- whatever kind you like is good. I've just used Rotos a long time. It's hard to find them. I must have bought nearly all of them or something. :)

I prefer La Bella flatwounds on my AV '62 Jazz reissue, but when I use roundwounds I prefer DR Lo-Riders.

I think you're correct fj, I've noticed the 'colored' ends of the strings on the bridge. I was wondering if someone had put D'addarios on 'em, but the other Fender basses @ GC the other day all had 'em too. I think Fender is trying to get consistency after the bad batch of their own strings? I had issues with the D'addarios back in the late '80s and '90s. I had to stop using them. That's when I went to Ernie Ball stainless, then to Dean Markley's, then to DR. Man I luv the DR's...but then Fender came out with their line of ss strings...up till last year that's what I've been using. I'm back to DR's now.

Stroker, how do you like the Rotos? I tried 'em in my time of looking for the "sound" and I like them, pricey tho, so I searched elsewhere...hehehehehe...hs kid with no funds = no expensive strings back then ;)

fj, their quality must've gone up a lot. I know people here like them. I'm not a fan of their strings.

These ones are good for a while, then I will start experimenting with brands. So far, I know D'Addarios but only for guitars, not basses. Maybe I should try some flatwounds, and see if they fit me.

I heard that the more recent manufactured Fenders are coming out from the factory with D'Addario strings. The strings on my Jazz do look like D'Addario. A good string, if it is.

Oh, I see. It would be good to know for sure, but the guy at the store couldn't tell me when I bought the bass. According to this website, it seems like the factory strings are Fender Super Bass. But who knows really.
