I've noticed that the Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass has now a reverse split-coil pickup and a CBS black logo. Also, the neck has Posiflex graphite reinforcements for extra stability.

What's happened? I saw this bass with the split-coil pickup non-reversed and a transitional decal.

I prefer the sound of a reversed pickup, you don't see them very often though.
It'd be better if it had a tone nob though.

On one of Ed Friedland's reviews (maybe a Warwick) he discusses the benefits of the reversed split coil. It seems to me that with the pickup being so far from the bridge, you wouldn't notice much tonal difference. Actually I've never understood why the Precision pickup was split in the first place unless it has something to do with the magnetic field produced by the pickup.

I had one and put a tone pot in it. I used a small Jazz tone knob. Looked cool and the tone pot was a definate positive. Ithink I put a Jazz volume knob on it also.

I guess the early Hoppus basses were made at the Ensenada plant.

The new versions with the reverse split humbucker are American-made because of the graphite neck truss rod.
