I am replacing my emg pickups with a set of fender jazz pickups. Do I need to ground them to the bridge, as there is no route to the bridge. Or is there another way to ground them. The bass is a custom Jazz copy and there is no metal cover over the controls either. Any help would be appreciated as this is my first pickup install.

The circuit in your Jazz bass should already have a ground wire running to the bridge. You should not have to do anything about this ground wire when you install new pickups, but someone could have altered the bass from its original configuration.

If your bass is one of the recreated early 60's Jazz basses that used a visible ground strip between the bridge and the bridge pickup and some one removed that strip, you will have to recreate the grounding strip out of a piece of sheet brass and run it between the bridge and the bridge pickup grounding plate under the bridge pickup.
