I've been playing on this guitar a little over a year now, and suddenly, inexplicably the bridge pup doesn't work. Neck pup works fine (I have VVT knobs). The magnets are behaving as they should; loosened strings will stick to the magnets. I looked under the knob plate, no loose wires, soldering seems fine. Unscrewed the pickup cover, couldn't see much of the wire, but nothing looking wrong with the actual coil. What else can I check before I should suck it up and take it to the pros?

Have you checked the volume pot?

Can you see the solder joints on the pup itself? One of those may be loose, i have had that happen before.

I have the same problem, except it's the neck p/u(bridge p/u fine). Had the bass over a year. Took off the plates, all looks good, rattled a few wires while plugged in, no sound. Can the pots be checked with an ohm meter? If so, how would I go about that? Is it possible that the p/u could be shot? Can you check a p/u? Hardly ever played the bass out at a gig.

Btw, it's mexican made.

Any suggestions?

Did you check to see that the ground wires were all still connected?

On the Bridge PU volume pot: Make sure that it is bolted securely to the control plate so that it is not rotating. That will break the wiring as you turn the volume up and down.

Check the bass with a volt ohm meter. Go through all of the connections that should be 0 ohms and find any that are not. Re-solder the broken connection.
It is very rare that a pickup will suddenly go bad. Somebody usually has to hit it or take it out of its cover and touch the wire wrap of the coil, for a break to occur.

If you don't feel up to this, take it to a god repair shop.

good luck
