2008 was the first year for the latest redesign of the Jazz and Precision basses. The big change was the improved bridge and the elimination of the S1 circuit. I also think that fender made the tuning machines lighter in weight as well as they improved the strap buttons to work with Schaller strap locks or just a standard strap.

They are very nice basses IMHO.

I noticed on my 08 that I recently traded for- the front of the headstock has crystal clearcoat on it. It's not satin/flat. I think that's a new thing . I haven't seen that for a long time.
On the tuners I noticed there is no washer on the barrel screw (goes thru the gear) on the tuners. That seems to be part of the weight reduction. I guess every little bit helps.

True. But a tricky question was not resolved.
S1 Switch was deleted by Fender for some reason. As you know Am Standard JAzz basses between 2003-2008 are "Switched 1".
Perhaps they aren't the best choice comparing the new Am Stand model so you shouldn´t feel sorrow if deal went away.

S-1 switch was not very popular. I guess Fender figured the extra expense was not worth passing on to the consumer, so they dumped it. I have an '08 Jazz bass, and it doesn't have the S-1. Best as I can figure, though, mine was likely made in the latter half of '08 so I suppose it's possible they were still using them in the first half of the year.

You need a photo hosting site such as photo bucket, then upload your pics there and select the "img" option to post them on other sites. It's hard to explain, but easy to do.
