Hi
I've bought a set of the Fender 60's Custom Shop Jazz Bass pickups. Within the box are two thin brass plates each with a wire soldered onto them, and a thick rubber strip stuck on.
There's no mention on the wiring diagram included with the set as to where the end of the wire should be attached... I assume the strips sit under the pickups - but it also looks like they'd short out the connections on the pickups.
I've also looked at several third party wiring diagrams and can find no mention of what is effectively a third wire?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
Paul

The brass strips go into the bottom of each pickup rout to act as shielding, with the foam side up to prevent the coil wires from shorting together. The wires should each be soldered to the housing of your volume pot in order to ground the shields.

If your Jazz Bass does not already have it, you might consider adding the factory-available shielding kit for the control cavity as well.
