Probably a good question for BrotherDave when he stops by.

Just a couple questions, though:

(1) Does it say Made in USA on the back of the headstock?
(2) Can you tell what the neck inlays are made of?
(3) Since we can't see the pickup configuration with the covers in place, have you determined that the pickups are original 1974?

You also might be able to compare yours to the evaluations located here:

That might help a little in determining value...

Good luck with your info search.

That looks like the real thing to me. That's a beautiful 1974 Fender Jazz Bass and it appears to be unaltered.

Bass Northwest has a mocha colored 1974 Jazz, which is a 4 bolt neck attachment and they are pricing it at $3199. I don't know what someone will offer you for your bass, if you want to sell, but that is a pretty good benchmark. That is for a bass with the original case, manual and cord as well as an unaltered wiring harness.

Remember everybody that in the early years of Fender, before the late 70's, Fender instruments were not marked: Made in the USA. The only place Fenders were made back then was the USA.
After there was more copying by foreign makers and changes in laws that required labeling the country of origin, Fender started marking Made in the U.S.A. on their instruments.

I think that a mocha one for $31K is a little out of line. Yours is nice though. Is it blond or white? Blond shows the wood grain thru the finsih. It's hard to see that in pictures but you should be able to see it in person. The blond with the woodgrain showing thru is rarer than white.

That would sell for in the ballpark of $2,000 around here in a private sale. Dealer would offer you maybe 1,000. Would appraise for about 3,000. Seems to be in VG to Ex condition.
