Hi,

I recently bought this off eBay for £180. ($288)

Did I get a good deal? It does have damage to it, like paint wear and scratches. But I only care for sound, not cosmetics.

Also I want to know the exact model this is. I think it is just a standard Jazz bass. But with the '60' in a diamond does it make it a special 60th anniversary guitar? I put the serial into a website and it told me it was made between 05-06 in Mexico. So I am presuming it is a '06 model. Because then it would definitely be a 60th anniversary guitar.

What else is there to know? And what are the specs?

Oh, one more thing, the scratch plate on the back, should it just be blank or should it have the fender logo on it?

Thanks, here are some pictures to help.

Joe.

It looks good. The neck plate should be blank. It does look to be a real Mexican Std. Jazz. Good luck with it.

+1. It is not the "60th anniversary bass" though.
All Fenders released in 2006 had that little button, celebrating their 60th year. But the "60th anniversary guitars and basses" from then had a little ribbon-like doohicky on the frontside of the headstock, and IIRC a special neckplate.

Hey zod; I didn't think it was a 60th. Mainly because it was an MIM.

I was agreeing with you about it being a MIM Standard. I can't remember if all the special 60th anniversary basses were only MIA though.
And the color of the OP's bass has me confused, what color is that?

So, it's a standard Mexican jazz bass.

Has the specs of this jazz bass changed over the last 5 years?

And the main thing, did I get a good deal?

It has two knobs missing and paint damage in one corner.

The specs may have changed slightly in 2009, when the MIM's where revamped/updated. Not too sure as to what may have changed though. I do know they also have maple fretboards now.

IMO $288 is a good deal. As long as it has no serious issues, such as bad frets, twisted or warped neck, broken truss rod, costly repairs or fixes. But ultimately all that stuff is your decision to make.

Missing knobs are nothing, a simply fix. Body/paint damage adds mojo.

You got a good bass for less than $300, I think that is a job well done.

There were both MIA and MIM 60th anniversary commemorative models. USA ones had platinum G&G anniversary hardcase. MIM ones had platinum anniversary gig bag. In addition to an inlaid faux diamond on the headstock of the USA one, the case was extra nice. Nothing much special about the MIM one but the color of the body and gig bag. This was only 5 years ago. Wanted one of the USA ones but collectors are hoarding most of those. The MIM ones are far more common but not as plentiful as other 2006 models. Neither were limited edition but an open ended commemorative. So there are plenty.

All 2006 Fenders, even FSR's got an anniversary medallion on the back of the headstock and are often touted as "Anniversary Models." That medallion alone does not make them "ANNIVERSARY MODELS." Only the two commemorative models with the special cases were actually the real "Anniversary Models" offered that year only.

YES you got a good buy!

Yeah you got a good buy...my '99 I bought 2 summers a go, I bought for $175, and I've put money into it since I got it...but it was bought to be my project/my sig bass ;)

And like Zod said, if none of those issue appears, you got a deal!!
