Similar to another post, I was having a problem adjusting my neck on a GL jazz. If I tried to tighten, it would just stop hard. But if I loosened, it was floppy loose until it bottomed out again. Nothing much happened when I turned it.

I took it to the guitar tech who set it up back in early summer and A) he said that it wasn't a problem when he set it up, and B) that the truss rod was probably broken/stripped.

Has anyone experienced this? I am going to take it to another tech for a second opinion.

Thanks

Yes, Fender truss rods often break. I've had this problem on my '62 reissue jazz, and the repair guy told me it's a common problem. He offered me to put a new neck instead, but I loved the sound, so he took the fretboard away, filled the cavities the broken truss rod made inside when I've tried to adjust it, put a new modern truss rod, a new fretboard, binding and put a nitro on the back of the neck. One serious repair.

If you don't want to spend a fortune on repairs, just buy a replacement neck.

Thanks for that, he says with a sad heart.

That is so encouraging.

Yes, that I get. I will see from the second tech, who is an authorized Fender guy, what the verdict is. While repairing the neck is serious, buying a new one is not trivial either. And then to consider that

, hmmmm. I'll have to see. Maybe I'll just play this one out until it can't be played anymore.

The most beautiful site today was the caller id of the guitar tech advising me of the good news that there was nothing broken AT ALL. Just reassembly of the truss rod and lubrication was required. He made other adjustments to correct the strings from banging on the highest fret, lowered the action to account for an arthritic fretboard hand, and declared it blessed...all for $80 +tax. No $500 neck!!!! :D
