Hi, I just bought a 2005 Fender Jazz 60's reissue (MIM) from a buddy of mine, and its fine bass. Great tone, great build, vintage styling. I do have one question though... it seems to me that the tone control does nothing at all. The buddy of mine was using this on stage, and decided to get a warwick and needed some extra money, so he sold the Jazz to me.He kept it in immaculate condition, with not a scratch or blemish on it. But it just seems to me that the tone control does nothing to alter the tone of the bass. Is it just me, or is it actually busted?

come on guys, I really need some help on this one. I'm using a practice amp designed for guitars, so could that have anything to do with the lack of input from the master tone control?

Most probably, guitar amps have f-all low end in most cases so they can't handle the lower frequencies a bass puts out (I know, I had the same problem when I started out). That is to say that you probably just can't notice the difference in tone as the amp isn't designed for bass.

However I'd suggest taking the bass over to this friend's and testing it out on his rig.

If the tone knob does turn out to be faulty it doesn't cost much for a replacement pot.

Well something is definitely up on this one. You should take the bass to a certified tech at a Guitar Center and have the electronics really checked out. There might be more lurking underneath the plate than you know.
