Well I have been looking for a bass for a bit now and today I got to play a Fender Jazz bass (fretless). OH WOW!!!! I have played some nice Jazz basses but this thing hands down had that fantastic vintage bass thump.
I play rock and mostly alternative stuff. I'm not really into the bright power thump of bright wounds played with a pick so my question is, What are you thoughts, like/dislikes about a fretless Jazzer?

I bought a Japan made Squier Jazz Bass with active EMG-Pickups in the early 80s. When I had enough money and a good occasion to buy a "real" Fender JB ('76) a year later, I had the frets removed from my Squier to use it occasionaly as a second bass. Actually, I played the (fretted) Fender two or three times on stage since then. It always ended up in an annoyed band ("stick to your bass, man!"). And they are right. I really love this bass.

I forgot to mention: I play Blues and Soul (with fingers - no thumb, no picks). As I put the EMGs, the bass has a earthy, slightly snarling sound. Not really like a double bass, but with a slight touch of it.
