Can the Fender people please respond. What body type (Ash and/or Alder) is the Fender Jazz Bass American Deluxe V Red Wine Transparent (0194690-775) built with? Please don't go to the Fender website for a resource, I've been there and it's confused.

I'm not a Fender rep, but I just purchased a transparent wine 2010 jazz american deluxe V. Not sure what you mean exactly by Fender's site being confused, but when I look at the American Deluxe V specs, the website indicates it's an Alder body. Further, it indicates 4 of the 5 the current models (Wine, White, Black, Sunburst) are an Alder body. The one exception being the Natural model, which is an Ash body.

Or am I missing something?

Anywho, I love, LOVE, my new Fender!

When I talked to the Fender rep in Arizona, he indicated the Fender website had apparent typos, and that he'd see to getting it corrected. He indicated that the natural finish and the transparent finishes were constructed of ash. Also, you can check on your new purchase on a tag. It is a sticker on the tag. What does your sticker read, ash or alder. It should be ash according to the Fender rep.

What about the Olympic white. What kind of wood is the body on the Olympic white finish. I have seen both ash and alder. Currently, Fender indicates alder, although they indicate alder for the wine transparent finish. So who do you believe. I just sent my 2010 V transparent back cause it was ash. The website on the online guitar store indicated alder. Confusing or what??

Enjoy your bass!!!

I have to ask, why would you send the bass back just because it was made of ash?

I sent it back because I thought I was getting an Alder body. generally, I understand that an alder body has a warmer/darker tone than the ash wood. I have owned Fender jazz bass (ash with maple neck) for about 20 years and decided that I wanted an alder body. Unfortunately, there were no 2010 fender jazz bass american deluxe v in the stores to sample, so I made a decision on what I read and my own experiences with my 1992 Fender Jazz bass active electronics, ash body. The 2010 ash body I had was a very nice, well crafted bass, but I was looking for an alder body.

Thanks, Rockeez.

I checked my tag. It appears you're correct, and that the Wine Transparent (at least mine) is an Ash body. Here's what my tag reads: "AMERICAN DLX JAZZ BASS V RW WTRANS ASH"

I didn't have a preference either way, and I'm SUPER pleased with my bass. It's a great instrument and plays very well.

Cheers!

Wow,

this is a quite useful information !
I am shopping for an Ash body, like the Wine Transparent, but had to exclude it because of the Alder.
BTW, the 4-string version specs do not not say anything about the Wine Transparent body material, it is simply missing in both lists.
