I'm new here and would like some information please.
I am just learning to play, (after a 30 year brake). I have found a Used (excellent condition) Mark Hoppus Signature Bass and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me where these were made? And I would also like opinions as to weather or not this would be a good bass to buy.
Fender has it listed as a "signature" Bass and also as a Jazz base. I know it has a Jazz body but I thought it had a little finer tapered PB neck.
Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I'm wondering if you, (or any one), know the dates they were built, or better, when they were first manufactured. I'm going to go over and get the serial number today to try and research the bass I'm looking at. I am just trying to find out if it's worth what the shop is asking for it. They have it listed for $599 but I know that's a little negotiable. I want to be fair with the guy but I also want a good deal, knowing when it was manufactured seems a good place to start.
Again, thanks for your input.
Mike

Hi Mike,

To find out when your Made-in-Mexico (MIM) Mark Hoppus bass was built, just go to http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx and input the serial number and check the "Mexican Made" box.

As to the bass itself, I recently bought a used one and love it. It has a beefier pickup and the tone is very strong. Don't worry about not having a tone knob. Just figure out the sound you want with your amp controls and you're ready to go.

As to the price, I've seen them anywhere from the mid-$200s all the way to a high of $800 on "Buy It Now" on eBay. If you shop around, you shouldn't have to pay much more than around $300 to $400.

Good luck and enjoy your new bass -- whichever Fender you end up with...

This bass is American-made since 2011. It now sports a reversed SD SPB-3 P-Bass split-coil humbucking pickup, a knurled chrome flat-top knob and a graphite-reinforced neck with an early 1970's CBS logo.

The updated Mark Hoppus Jazz uses a solid ash body. The new bass is much lighter than the previous alder-bodied models.

The tone is beefier on the D and G strings because of the new reversed pickup design.

Thanks all.
I ended up buying a Fender Jazz Bass, mim 2000-2001. I don't think the guy ever plugged it in! Honestly it does not have a mark of any kind on it and the neck is laser straight! I looked inside the jack hole with a magnifying glass and couldn't find any sign of ware.

I may still buy the Mark Hoppus Bass because the price has been reduced so much, and you can't have to many Fender Basses now can you?
