I saw this guy on my local music forum selling his MIA fender for 765, so I thought its a pretty good deal so i called him up. He dont have pictures available, so I went to a guitar center to check out his bass.

Its looks pretty much like the standard jazz, rosewood board w 'made in usa' imprinted on headstock, white on white, 2x black single coils. However, his pickguard looks very different. It goes all the way from the body to the control plate, covering the vol/tone/tone knobs. My main concern is about him swapping a mia body with a cheaper variation and just keeping the neck on it.

I did some research on it and found out that fender did make basses with a 1piece ply pickguard during the year 1983, and the pickup covers were white for those models. What I dont understand is... why the pickup covers in the bass i mentioned is black?

Btw, the bass looks like this http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... bf547c63ea

the first bass in the post

Simple. He either changed out the pickups, or even just the pickup covers.
Happens all the time. :D

The jazz bass you are linking to is a Squire model. The original 1983 Jazz basses had a different bridge and a single ply pickguard that is not beveled.

That bass is a much cheaper version that the USA 1983 Jazz.
If that is the body on the bass you are being sold, that 's a very bad deal.
a Squire Jazz bass is a 150 dollar bass new in a bass pack. Maybe 200 with a cheap amp so someone is getting ripped off!

People can still swap pickups or the pickup covers on these basses. They are the standard USA sized pickups.
