Hi guys. I'm new to the forum, so go easy on me
I have a standard jazz (Mexican) and I wanna fit it with a Badass bridge.
Will the 5 hole centres line up perfectly?
Should I put toothpicks or matchsticks in the holes in the body before I screw the new bridge in place?
Should I file grooves in the bridge saddles?

Thanks for any help.

The BadAss Bridge that is made to be a drop in replacement for fender basses is just that: Drop in. So in short, yes they should line up.

Should I put toothpicks or matchsticks in the holes in the body before I screw the new bridge in place?

That's a new one to me, personally I'd say that's a waste of time...

Should I file grooves in the bridge saddles?

advisable but only if you're confident. If not get it done by a tech. Infact you could give your bass and the bridge to a tech and he'd do it all for you with a set up I'm sure.

i installed it, and the holes were a tiny bit off, like 2mm or so, but it fit perfectly, and don't file the saddles, take it to a tech to do it for you/

if you go to http://www.bestbassgear.com/badass-bridge.htm you can buy this bridge with the saddles already filled by the manufacturer. I just bought this bridge myself and dropped it in yesterday with no problem. It was super easy to setup and took no time at all

Thats the problem with these bridges you should file string grooves and if you don't know what you are doing or at lease know what your string spacing is, you have a messed up bridge also they use pot metal to make these's bridges which can change the sound on a passive bass.

Yep, should just screw into the original screwholes! I've used bestbassgear for gear too and they are good. :D

Hey Fry! Do yourself a favor. Leave it alone. I've been playing bass for over 30 years and have found that if you leave your ax in original condition you will be much better off. I ruined a p-bass back in 74 by installing a bass $@!. Worst thing I ever did. I even installed De Marzio pick ups. Totally ruined any value the bass would have ever had. IF there is any sound difference in the bad $@!...it is so subtle it is not worth the money you spend. Save your money, leave your ax alone, it will serve you better than you expect and get ther job done.

Well, if you buy your bass for future value, take off the strings, so no tension will ruin the neck, take out the battery(active pups), put it in a case, put in a bag - vacuum seal it. Let it out in 30 years. If you want to play it to your own rythm, do what you want, keep the stock parts, put it back on when/if you want to sell it. Your axe is to be played with, make music with. You want to collect for future value, buy rare bass(es) and do those other things to keep it pristine and never play with it.

To the OP, do what you want. I'm happy with my mods on the bass.

You can always return the original bridge back whenever you want it has the same holes with the badass II, filing would be recomended to align the strings with the pickup poles, by the way my bass sounded brighter with the Badass II just the way i like it!

My bad! You're right on the Badass II. It is a drop-in replacement, so it doesn't matter. Back in the day when Badass bridges came out, they had to be installed by cutting it into the body of the bass therefore ruining any value. Ed
