So you ordered the bass from this dealer and they just handed you the bass with out inspecting it?? I would go there and complain if I were you. That is unacceptable. There is no way I would repair a brand new bass my self. That's just me tho. Glad you got it fixed.

I agree that the dealer in question handled this poorly-they really need to be the last line of defense on QC. I wholeheartedly agree that for 2K - you SHOULDN'T have to fix it yourself. HOWEVER - if the rest of the instrument was nice to me, I would rather fix it myself it than risk some dope in the backroom of that dealer screwing it up... That's just me.

....BTW the most expensive of my guitars cost a little over half that. If I forked over 2K - I would be super pissed!

Most mom/pop stores have a good tech working for them...not like the bigger chains. To be fair tho, even the big chains usually, usually I say, would have someone competent working to fix guitars/basses.

Sorry to hear that!

I've had a questionable run-in with Fender QC this year, too. My 50th Anniversary Jazz has grounding/shielding/hum issues - whenever I take my hands off the strings the noise is off the charts. Conversely, my MIA Standard Jazz and EB/MM 'Ray are quiet as mice.

It doesn't bother me too much now because I have a Boss NS-2 (noise suppressor) in my pedal chain and I usually have the horns on my amps turned off (playing classic country and reggae these days), so it minimizes the noise. But, I don't live near a repair shop, so I'm going to have to wait before I can get it looked at.

But.. other than that it's a great bass. And, being limited edition it's not like I can just take it back and get another one....
:D

Do an online search for shielding. It's pretty easy to do yourself and will get rid of the noise. The work around you have will get you through the gig but you are killing your tone for sure.

Yeah I found a reall "77 for haklf that. Of course I have spent a bit making it acceptable for work. There really isn't any excuse for that type of shoddy QC, regardless of the price. If I buy anything, whether it is a $1.25 Bic lighter or a $4000 custom bass or a $40,000 car, it better work 100%. That's the reason Fender was losing money back in the 70's and 80's.
