Hello,
This is my first post here and I would appreciate any help. There is a used Fender J Bass for sale locally that looks a little odd to me. I am hoping someone can help me determine if it is authentic. The neck is US made with a US serial number that dates the bass to 1993. The knobs look like the type on the MIM bass. Strings cannot be strung through the body similar to the MIM body. The neck place is square with the Fender logo. Corona CA, is not on the plate. There is also a hole in the plate, which I believe is a neck tilt adjustment that I have on only seen on the MIJ models. My question is this truly a 94 US J bass or misc assembled parts? The bass is in really nice condition cosmetic and playing condition. Thanks for any help!

Dave

Location: location, location.
American fenders often ones have microtilt adjustment (the hole in the neckplate)
American and mexican jazzes have the same knobs, so do you mean the strat style knobs that they had on old basses?
I'm not entirely sure, but I think that basses from that era were top-loading, rather than top-loading.
I don't doubt that its american made.

It sounds like a USa made Fender because of two things. The F logo n the neck plate is a USA trademark and the fact that it is top loading is correct for pre-1995 USA basses.

Post a picture if you can and then we can all chime in with our opinions of what you have.
