Whatever changes are made, I would like to see Fender go back to using the bound necks with the block inlays on the Jazz basses as standard again.

They were nice basses too, I reckon they should have the 62 type all classic and the bound inlay type.

How does the new American Standard J (or P) basses SOUND vs the previous American Standards???? I noticed they got rid of the s1 switch (personally I like this and hear a difference on the P bass vs on the J bass where I really don't hear much of a difference with the s1), but its the same pick ups, just some cosmetic changes e.g. the heavier bridge(I prefer/wish they put a BADASS III on this as stock), lighter tuners, and new finish? So I assume it should sound/feel the same as the 2003-2007 P or J basses which had the S1 switch? The new case is better vs the "old" molded shape case. Anyone compare the sound of the new P or Js since the changes appear to be just cosmetic??

I should have known something was up 4-5 months ago since my local music store was slashing the prices on the American Standard basses and guitars. They were selling new 2007 P or J basses with sunburst finish for $799 NEW when these normally go for ~$1100-1200

Olden Boy,
When are you selling the "unwanted" parts to your new 2008 bass the pick ups, S1, tuners etc...?

I unfortunately don`t have my Olympic white j-bass yet...my plan is to buy it in May as a month-early b-day gift to myself. Send me a pm if you want to contact me on down the road.

Back on topic, I also would like to see bound necks with block inlays available for the American j-basses. Are you listening, Fender?

Olden Boy, tried PMing you, but Fender disabled this function now??? Email me at ezerhardin@hotmail.com.
BTW the only way to get the bound block J necks is the Custom Classic J basses which are very expensive at ~$1900-2200 since they are Custom Shop bases. Fender got rid of the American Deluxe Flame Maple and Quilt Maple top J basses which also had bound/block necks. Other option is the Fender Japan made Geddy Lee and Marcus Miller 4 string--every so often I see a neck from these on ebay. For instance, just saw a Geddy Lee neck go for close to $400.00 which I feel is kind of stupid since you can get the whole bass used for $6-650.
You can also try after market like Warmoth, Mighty Mite, All Parts. Again, check ebay since from time to time I see these block/bound necks for sale new and used.
My wish is for an ebony fingerboard neck--dare to dream :)
