Hi....I hear there's some new updates for the 2008 American P & J bass line. Does anyone know exactly what the changes are?

Thanks

Yep, I asked the same question too in few posts down. I even emailed Fender and of course.......no response!
I guess they are keeping this info close to the vest since NAMM is this week.

However, they should at least answer customer emails if they want to make sales. Fender Customer Service is really getting ripped horribly on alot of the internet boards.

I think they need Don Randall to come back and show them how to work this thing because they are surely missing the boat!!!

Waiting for NAMM is really stupid since the new instruments are already in stores.

I know. I called two online merchants, american musical and music 123 and that is what both reps told me. What's more, is one of them even said that it would not be until possibly MARCH until a new lineup arrives in stock.

Ridiculous!

I hope they don't change too much, I much prefer the classic type of Jazz bass myself, it's why I use Fender I love the simplicity.

found this website on another forum. has the new p's and j's. looks like they added hipshot tuners and a high mass vintage bridge.

Well, I don't mind if the S1 switching goes, I don't like it at all. The bridge would be fine without the string through design and why do Fender keep sticking with newer type machine heads, I prefer vintage reverse. One last thing when are they going to stop under pick guard routing?

Sorry if this sounds negative but I'm a classic Fender fan

One hopes they introduce some nicer colours and get rid of those horrible white pick guards and good riddance to that silly S1 switch I say.

Agreed, white pickguards are awful, tortoise should be the standard.+1 for the S1 switch

I`m with you guys on the vintage tuners, and getting rid of the pointless, gimmicky S-1 switch. Why would anyone want their J-bass to sound like a P-bass? As for the string-thru body, I can take it or leave it, but those hipshot tuners are about the worst-looking ones I`ve ever seen. I`m going to install 70`s-style tuners, Fralin or Lollar pickups, and "normal" electronics in my new Olympic white J-bass. The Hipshots, the pickups, and the whole S-1 switch shebang will be sold on eBay.

Nothing like buying a new Fender bass, then having to spend more money on it so it`s more like a Fender...?? :?

I quite like the idea of a hipshot tuners but heck its both cooler and just as easy to detune the E string yourself, between or even mid song with a bit of practice and a good ear.

I love the 'uge 60's style reverse tuners and the 70s ones with the fender name stamped on them are utterly cool!

I have to say I'm also a NORMAL electronics fan. No stupid gimmicks please, though I'd like to see the return of the stacked vol/tone/vol/tone on some J basses 8)

I've opted for keeping my basses stock, I used to put Dimarzio pups in my Jazz basses and change the bridge for a badass, also used to have a brass nut fitted, the only thing I do these days is epoxy my fretless and maybe sand the finish off the back of the neck. I'm the same as ally, not really interested in custom electronics these days.
