Hi! My Jazz bass SN starts with S7 XXXXX, so i think it is produced in 77 or 78? Anyway my neck nut broke recently and I figured that is smaller than standard jazz bass width 1-1/2!? Mine is 1-3/8, and E-G is approx 1-1/8? I cant find spare, do I have to make it myself or am i measuring wrong!?
I should say that I am not the first owner and that some parts are missing like bridge and neck pickup cover, thumb rest. So is this standard jazz bas or? Thanks!

1) The Fender website has a serial number reference so look for it.

2) Don't make your own nut. Find a dealer or repair shop and get it done the right way. You might even post your location and see if any forum members in your area have a recommendation.

Yeah I looked, by Fender refernce it it 77 or 78! Regarding nut, I didn know it is so difficult to make another, because there is a lot of nut blanks on market even from Fender...

Well the thing about nuts, is, the process for cutting a new nut isn't inherently hard, but it does require the proper tools, like a set of properly sized nut files, not necessarily cheap, razor saws some precise measuring, and experience. The cost to get a set of the proper tools for nut work can run you as much as a couple of hundred bucks. Best leave it to a pro, unless you plan on doing it on a regular basis , otherwise it wouldn't be economically feasible.
