I looked in the specs but could'nt find the answer. What is the weight of an American Standard Jazz bass, 4 string ? Also, what exactly is fingerboard radius ?

Fender does not nor have they ever (AFAIK) given the weight of their instruments, as there is enough variation in the density of the wood that they couldn't do that with complete accuracy. As far as fingerboard radius goes, current Fender basses have a 9.5" radii.

The real question about the weight of a particular instrument is whether it feels comfortable when you play it. I have a five-string jazz that weighs around 9lbs. My other bass is a 4-string that weighs 10lbs. Both are comfortable to play standing up as they have different balance points. The choice of strap can also make a big difference in playing comfort. If I was to use my 4-string exclusively I would invest in a wider, padded strap as 10lbs does get heavy after awhile.

When you have a gut like mine, the bass should be asking me about weight. Let's put it this way, NONE of my basses lose sleep over acquiring buckle rash. My buckle only sees the light of day at 3 PM on the Summer Solstice.

These guys are right. The weight of any bass will vary with the body and neck wood used. Alder tends to be lighter than ash, but exceptions occur.

I have Jazz basses that range from 8 to 11 pounds approximately.

Heavy basses just need a wider strap!

8)

Neck radius is the degree of curvature in a fingerboard from side to side so that if you drew a circle based on the curve of the fingerboard, the resulting circle would have a radius of 9.5 inches on a new American Jazz bass.

On a vintage Fender Jazz bass- that circle would have a 7.5 inch radius.

I hope that answers your question.
