Hi,

I have a 78's jazz bass and its neck bowed a little, however the truss rod nut is worn out and needs to be replaced. I 've got a new one but have know idea how to take off the old nut and replace the new one hereafter. Does anyone happened to know the solution?

Many thanks.

My sympathies. This is a serious job, but can be done by someone who knows what they are doing. I would get a professional to do it. In this case a $6 part will cost several hours of skilled labor and some specialized tools.

The following links are worth reading:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for_Truss_rods/Truss_Rod_Rescue_Kit.html

While these are links to information on repairing Strats or Tele guitars, the principles and designs are the same and the repair techniques identical.

While some people say to drill out the plug on basses with the nut access on the headstock, it is better to use a heat gun first as that often softens up the glue and it will pull right out so you can reuse it.

Sometimes it is just cheaper to buy another neck or another bass.

Again, my sympathies.
